willz i love the guide and im especially lookig forward to part 7 lol.

in part 4 you mention some images have a vista counterpart like the min max and close button and the shared folders button in 920 and 923 i didnt know how to do the msgvista thingy as you dont really explain that in much detail so for the flw buttons i ignored it and had no problems, however in 923 the chat window the new icon i set for 1444 sharing folders doesnt show up only the old one appears, also the oim and sharing folders buttons have never ever appeared in my contact list so i have no way of knowing if anything i do to them is working.

also how do you make the show menu button and flw button like you did in evo and zero-g?

any help you can give will be greatly appreciated.

EDIT:

ok i found out how to do the source thingy for example for sharing folders in contact list it would be

Quote:
<Picture Id="978" Source="msgvsta">
<File>Images\Buttons\Sharing Folders.png</File>
<Metadata>
<Colorize>false</Colorize>
</Metadata>
</Picture>

now the reason that works is because its in the replace section, however in the new section where you put your min, max and close buttons you can use source, the option is called destination and is defaultly set to msgres however destination doesn't accept msgvsta as being valid, this means there are some inconsistancies in part 4 where you reference those particular images, could you please explain as to how we are supposed to deal with those particular images?

Perhaps a good method of allowing views to this (and DE) is to host a "forum-version" of the guides, cause Imo, its faster to look in the via the forums. (Well part 4 can be excused...considering it's so large).
even the other 3 smaller guides would be too big, after all you only get so many characters allowance for any given post. what would be useful though is once willz finishes the guide if he converts he whole thing into the same format as the skinning documentation is in then everything is fully searchable etc.

Many forums' (including MP!L) when they have long content is to just split it into 2 consecutive posts.

Staff shouldn't have a set limit, so that really shouldn't be an issueWink Though an html version would be much more appropriate.

personally with part 4 being so long you dont know what page a given window is on so it take a long time to get to a specific window, is there not a format where each windows breakdown can be despanded by default and you click on some kind of + to expand it and a - button to close it up again atleast then its easier to find the window you want to know more about?

Maybe since it's already in a zipped file, part 4 can be broken into each of the windows, so that it's faster and easier to find the actual thing you're looking for.

well actually i think the best way migt be the .chm file method i mentioned before, at present wills has planned for 14 chapters to this guide, now as sen in the skinning guide etc .chm's can have sub chapters where chapter 4 the resource bible can then have an introduction section which i think id the first 15 lines of the current word document and then a seperate subchapter for each window, anyway just an idea, the word files will do for now i just meant that once all 14 word documents are released and have all been translated into the various languages then they could be combined into a single file interactive help file type guide so itd be one download that gives you absolutely everything.
The easiest way to tackle this is to start some sort of knowledge base kind of mini site. That way people can search for particular parts of the long resource guide. Of course the only problem is finding time, it is something that I am really lacking these days.
ok willz thats a great idea, yeah i appreciate times a factor however you could also say that it doesnt necesarily have to be you putting in that time once the various parts of the guide are completed by you then another person say a mod or other design evolved staff member could convert the completed modules into the minisite knowledge base all you would need is a skilled volunteer.
