Well here is the official thread to the Windows Live Messenger essential skinners guide.

This tutorial is based on Windows Live Messenger 8.5. Things are very different in WLM 9 and onwards, the ID's that are given here do not work with Messenger 2009. UIFiles have also changed.

Those are just the ones off the top my head that I am going to do. There will probably be more when I can think of it

When I get actual chunks of time (and when I finish OpenDiode) I'll hopefully have a chance to read them and give skinning a go. Looking good though .
