I used to have this problem before, but it went away, and after I read this my input went bananas and did exactly this...
and DiscMcDisco's solution doesnt work for me anymore, that was whaw fixed it before, and now it does not.
please help, this is so very annoying.

I managed to fix this, if anyone is interested. its not the skin, it is msn messenger
when you drag the input box beyond the chat window, to ensure that it is minimal size.
When you drag it to that point, beyond the window, it looks like its the minimal, when you reach that point, you seem to go into negative count, which is not good for any program as I see it
the program handles this by adding it to a size we cannot drag it to, I think the number is 32337 something, whatever.
this makes it go bananas each time
but if you carefully drag it to minimal size and not going with your mouse too far away from the drag bar, the size will stay like you put it.
